The Barn House kitchen renovation is complete!
When we started the barn-house project last fall; the building was dark, filled with black widow spiders (like, A LOT of black widows!), and torn down to the studs. I immediately saw right through the scary scene and envisioned the space as a bright, beautiful, relaxing country retreat. That vision has come to reality and our barn is now the beautiful vacation rental + guest house I had imagined.
Here is the before photo for reference.
And here the kitchen is today!
When I dreamed up this space, my hopes were to create a kitchen that felt fresh, a little modern and a bit county; it is a barn house after all! I love the mix of vintage pieces with the clean, modern lines.
I chose to stick with the classic combination of warm white and brass. The natural wood butcher block plays off the warm tones of the brass. Although the colors are neutral, it’s far from boring; the vertical tongue and groove adds interest and texture, creating the country- cozy (yet still fresh!) look I was hoping for. It’s been months (we starting in November 2019) in the making, and it is so rewarding seeing this project come together.
NOTES: at the end of the day this project is an investment. We are renting it out as a vacation rental so I really tried to keep on a budget for a quicker ROI (return on investment). There were not a ton of “splurge” items. I found a lot of pieces at Wayfair; I LOVE using Wayfair because they have amazing customer service and fantastic return policies if an item doesn’t work out. I believe you can get a high end look, without having to spend high end money. TIP: if you are on a budget always check the scratch + dent section of the hardware store: we got our $1300 range for $399 because there was a dent on the side! I also found our sink at ReStore for $40 – the same one is at Lowes for $300. I don’t look at working within a budget as restrictive – I look at it as an opportunity to get creative.
If you’d like to come enjoy Paso Robles wine country in our Black Barn check back, I am adding the vacation rental link when we are set to go live!
Here are a few more pictures of the kitchen!
And there it is! Thank you for checking out our newly renovated barn house kitchen. I’ll be sharing the barn house bathroom and dining in the next week or so. I’ve linked sources below – if you have any questions please reach out! xx Alexis
